With the presentation of the new Apple MacBook Pro 2018, at the same time an external graphics solution from Blackmagic was exclusively announced for Apple: the Blackmagic eGPU
The Blackmagic eGPu is a remarkable product. It is an external graphics accelerator for professional software like DaVinci Resolve. You can also connect the Blackmagic eGPU via Thunderbolt 3 directly to the computer. It also has a built-in Radeon Pro 580 graphics card, an HDMI output, 85W power supply, another Thunderbolt-3 connector and four USB 3.1 ports.
All this comes in a design that is designed for performance optimization and quiet operation.
Screaming quiet performance
However, by far the most attractive feature of the Blackmagic eGPU is its silence.
The extremely quiet operation of the external graphics card is impressive. In most cases, the fans of the MacBook Pro will be even louder.
Elegant design in aluminum
The design is not only elegant but also functional. The eGPU was made from a single piece of aluminum and reinforced. This ensures a balanced air flow, convection cooling and efficient heat dissipation. Thus, the fan can run slower in variable speed, which allows extremely quiet operation at only 18 dB.
